Jo Ogier: Nature Journaling

Part of the New Art & Old Cromwell

Sunday 6 March

McNulty House, $120

This fun and interactive workshop will help you begin or extend your nature journaling skills.

It will focus on discovery and developing observational drawing skills. Techniques covered will include graphite, water soluble pencils, and pen and wash. Guidance on working in the field, composition, page layout and fun ways to create text will be covered.

Some drawing will be done outside – weather permitting.

Please bring: A journal with good quality smooth paper suitable for watercolour washes and pencil, HB Pencil, Black water proof drawing pen suitable for pen and ink work 0.5mm or smaller.

Also, bring if you have them, though there will be a limited supply for you to use in class if you don’t have any:

  • colour medium such as coloured pencils/ aquarelle pencils/ or a small set of water colours and a brush.
  • Found natural objects to draw if it is wet – seed pods, leaves, feathers, etc.

Choosing a Nature Journal is a personal choice (Pick one with heavier weight paper if you like working with washes or water colour – smoother paper will give you the most detail). I find it is a good idea to have a size that is really portable I tend to use one approximately A5 size. Good brands are Moleskine, Stillman & Birn – Zeta series and Daler-Rowney with smooth heavy paper.

NOTE: Participants will gather at the venue from 9:15 onwards ready for a 9:30 am start. Workshops finish at 3:30pm followed by an informal half hour to view work at the Arts & Crafts Clubrooms.
